SEO

SEO, which stands for search engine optimisation, is a term which describes the techniques and processes which are used to increase the number of people visiting a website. One of the main aims of SEO is to increase the position of the optimised site in search engine rankings for a particular result, as people are more likely to visit pages that are listed high on the first page than others.

SEO techniques have been widely used since the mid nineties, however developments in the way search engines index their results and many other associated technologies have advanced significantly since then, and SEO has had to adapt to these changes.

SEO has developed significantly as a marketing strategy and many companies and businesses who operate or sell a product online are very keen to implement SEO techniques to improve their pages rankings and the number of people visiting their sites who may invest in their product. As a result an increasing number of IT firms are offering their clients SEO packages to improve their search rankings, and there are also many companies that exclusively deal in SEO as a marketing strategy to clients.

However, SEO is a continual process as search results, trends and competitors are constantly changing. As a result many people argue that whilst SEO can certainly improve the amount and quality of traffic a website receives from search engine a successful internet business would unwise to solely rely on referrals from search engine traffic.
